Nadine Elaine Knott
September 17, 1919 - February 22, 2010

Nadine Elaine Magers Knott

ODESSA Nadine Knott, age 90, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital. She was a wife, mother, friend, “Nana,” homemaker, waitress, former business owner, and after retirement in 1980, a childcare provider to many youngsters. She loved fishing, cooking, baking, and entering numerous items in the Permian Basin Fair and Exposition Culinary Arts division where she won many awards, ribbons, and plaques. One year, she was awarded the top prize and the overall grand prize winner in the culinary arts division for her many entries. She loved to crochet and made many items to give her children and friends. These items will be cherished for years to come because she made them especially for the individuals who received them.

Nadine was born September 17, 1919, in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Clyde Vernon Magers and Ora Ollie Roberts. She was raised in McKinney, Texas and Ada, Oklahoma where she attended public schools and made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as a young child. Nadine came to Odessa in 1938 and met Wm. Raymond (Ray) Knott whom she married on August 5, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri. They moved to Illinois and lived in Olney, Salem, and Fairfield before returning to Odessa in 1945. Since 1945, Nadine resided in the Permian Basin area having lived in Kermit, Frankle City, the air terminal, Rankin, Crane, Monahans, Andrews, and Snyder before returning to Odessa in 1964.

Nadine was currently a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Odessa, AARP, a sixty-six year lifetime-member of the Enfield Chapter #347 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fairfield, Illinois, a long time member of El Minya Chapter of the Ladies Oriental Shrine in El Paso, Texas.

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, in 1963; parents; sister, E. Juanita Gillock; brother, Glen R. Magers, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Martha Rae Knott Blair, Denison, Texas; son, Wm. R. (Ray) Knott, Jr., Nacogdoches, Texas; son-in-law, Harlan Richard Speidel; and granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Speidel, both of Wharton, Texas.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Knott Speidel and Betty Ora Knott, and loving Chihuahua mix, “Chloe,” all of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sue Schroeder Knott; grandson, Wm. Jacob (Jay) Knott and wife, Brenna; granddaughter, Regina Lee Knott; great-grandchildren, Regan, Daniel, and Kenedy Knott, all of Nacogdoches, Texas; granddaughter Marvilyn Elaine Blair Bohannan and husband, Cecil; great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Claire, Cooper, Corrine, and Charleigh Bohannan; one great-great-grandchild, C.J. Bell, all of Mebane, North Carolina; two nieces, three nephews, and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Buena Vida, Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Chittur V. Ramanathan, M.D., and the staff of Compass Hospice for their love, care, concern, and support during our mother’s illness.

There will be a family visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010 in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
